Home     /     Blog     /     What Determines Aluminium Door Prices Beyond Opening Size?
By Coco

Aluminium doors price factors are often hidden behind an apparently simple opening size. A hinged entrance, a bifold patio opening and a large slider can occupy similar wall space while using very different hardware and installation arrangements. A useful quotation explains those differences item by item.

Panel layout and operation

Start with an elevation showing how many panels move and how they move. Bifold systems need hinges, carriers and a defined stacking arrangement. Sliding systems need tracks, rollers and interlocks. Pivot doors use a different support and operating mechanism. Those are meaningful specification differences, not cosmetic variations.

Identify the everyday access route and required clear passage. A quotation for a layout without a traffic leaf may be cheaper but less convenient for the intended use. Ask for alternative configurations to be shown and priced separately so their consequences remain visible.

Glass weight and hardware selection

Glass build-up and panel dimensions influence weight. Confirm the rollers, hinges, pivots or lifting mechanisms selected for the actual leaf. A price based on light demonstration glass may not describe the equipment needed for the project’s final glazing.

Specify locks, handles, closers and any access-control interfaces. Record whether external handles and key access are required. Hardware finish and service-part references should be included where they affect the selection. Do not compare a basic latch with a fully coordinated entrance-control package as though they are equivalent.

Thresholds and site interfaces

The sill option can affect fabrication and installation scope. Ask for a section showing finished levels, drainage and structural support. A reduced-height threshold may require surrounding building work that is not included in the door supply price.

Large doors also create delivery and lifting questions. Check the route from unloading point to opening, the available equipment and whether panels arrive assembled. Clarify who installs, adjusts and commissions the system. Repairs to paving, flooring or wall finishes should be identified separately.

Compare a complete package

  • Same opening dimensions and panel layout.
  • Same glass, frame system and finish.
  • Named hardware and threshold options.
  • Screens, controls and accessories.
  • Packing, delivery, installation and making good.

When seeking a lower price, discuss which requirement can change without undermining the project brief. An alternative panel arrangement may be worth considering, while an unexplained component substitution creates uncertainty. Keep every accepted revision in the quotation and drawings.
