Home     /     Blog     /     Shipping Windows and Doors From China: Access, Loading and Delivery Planning
By Coco

Shipping windows from China requires coordination between the product supplier, forwarder, importer and receiving site. The transport booking is only one part of the task. Package dimensions, documentation, unloading equipment and storage must all fit the actual shipment and delivery location.

Confirm what will be shipped

Obtain the package count, dimensions, weights and contents before finalizing the transport plan. Identify large glazed units, separately packed hardware and any items requiring special handling. The forwarder needs the packed dimensions rather than only the window frame sizes.

Ask how the cargo will be loaded, restrained and unloaded under the agreed method. Do not assume that equipment available at the factory will also be available at the destination. Share delivery-site access restrictions before dispatch.

Write the trade term and location clearly

Record the agreed trade term, named place or port and version where applicable. ICC’s Incoterms 2020 overview explains their role in allocating costs, risks and responsibilities. A transport price should be read with that allocation, not treated as an all-inclusive promise.

Ask the forwarder to identify origin charges, main carriage, destination charges, clearance, local delivery and unloading. Confirm insurance arrangements separately where relevant. Avoid assuming that a term covers every service needed to put the windows into the building.

Coordinate documents before departure

Have the importer or broker confirm the documents and information needed for the destination. Product descriptions, quantities, package references and parties should agree across the commercial and transport records. Resolve discrepancies before the shipment is in transit.

The U.S. International Trade Administration’s export-documentation overview provides general background on the document process. It is not a destination-specific checklist for every shipment. Use the actual route and product details when confirming requirements with the responsible professionals.

Prepare the receiving site

  • Vehicle access and delivery appointment.
  • Suitable unloading equipment and trained personnel.
  • Protected storage with identifiable package locations.
  • Inspection and damage-reporting responsibilities.
  • A sequence that supports planned installation.

Track dispatch, expected arrival and local delivery as separate milestones. Build the site plan around confirmed information and update it when transport changes. Keep packing lists and handling instructions available to the people receiving the goods.
